Assistant Conductor & Outreach Coordinator

The Grammy Award-winning Phoenix Chorale is seeking a resident Assistant Conductor & Outreach Coordinator, to serve as the primary artistic support to the Artistic Director in all rehearsals and concerts during the Phoenix Chorale’s season. The selected Assistant Conductor will join the Chorale’s artistic leadership team to serve its audience through the art and passion of choral music.

This position conducts rehearsals as necessary along with taking the lead coordinating the Chorale’s outreach and educational activities each season. This individual will exhibit excellent musicianship and the ability to embody and reflect the Chorale’s values of excellence, community, creativity, and a culture of positive reinforcement.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the ability to work and communicate effectively with a diverse team of singers, guest artists, and artistic and administrative staff, along with multiple constituent groups including patrons, collaborative partners, and the public. Applicants must be a resident of the Phoenix metro-area.

POSITION PROFILE

  • Excellent musicianship skills and 3+ years conducting experience leading choral ensembles (professional and/or orchestral conducting experience a plus)
  • Ability to reinforce Artistic Director’s interpretation of repertoire and choral methods with flexibility, creativity, openness to constructive feedback, and innovative problem-solving
  • Ability to embrace, embody, and reflect the Phoenix Chorale’s and Artistic Director’s values including excellence, community, creativity, and a culture of positive reinforcement
  • Knowledge, experience, and affinity for a broad range of repertoire
  • Experience in community outreach programs and collaborative programming with other groups and organizations
  • Master’s degree or commensurate experience preferred

SCHEDULE & COMPENSATION

The primary time commitment for the Assistant Conductor & Outreach Coordinator includes attending rehearsals, concerts, and outreach events each season, along with artistic and administrative responsibilities each month. Concert series and rehearsals are held in four-week blocks with four series each season and weekly rehearsals held on Thursday and Friday evenings from 6:30-9:30pm. Concert dates include October 18-20, 2019, December 13-17, 2019, February 28-March 1, 2020, and April 24-26, 2020. Annual outreach events include Boys to Men (Nov. 2, 2019), Beer Choir PHX (Dec. 7, 2019), Free Open Rehearsal (Feb. 7, 2020), Valley Sing (Feb. 22, 2020), and Songfest (April 4, 2020), with additional dates added as needed. This is a contracted part-time position, with a $1,000 monthly stipend.

Marketing & Communications Internships
FALL Internship (SEP-DEC 2019)

 

The Phoenix Chorale is seeking a Marketing & Communications Intern for the FALL Semester.

As Marketing & Communications Intern, you will gain a broad range of experience in a variety of areas including (but not limited to) social media, fundraising, box office, media relations, event planning and promotion, administrative support, and special projects as assigned. Previous experience in these areas is a plus – but not required – as you will receive on-the-job training.

Ideal candidates for this internship include college students pursuing undergraduate degrees in areas such as Music, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Broadcasting or Journalism and/or students interested in learning about music business, the performing arts industry, event planning/management and non-profit administration.

The Phoenix Chorale is Arizona’s GRAMMY-winning a cappella choir. Along with local concert presentations each season across the Phoenix-metro area, the Phoenix Chorale can be heard on radio stations around the world. The Phoenix Chorale office is located along Roosevelt Row in downtown Phoenix (at the Roosevelt Arts District stop along the light rail – 100 West Roosevelt Street, Phoenix).

Knowledge, skills and experience preferred:

• Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Strong written, proofreading, and verbal skills
• Strong typing and computer proficiency
• Music performance, office administration, reception, event planning, or social media experience a plus

This is a volunteer position with a stipend of $800 for the FALL Semester. A commitment of twelve weeks at 15+ hours per week is required. This internship may satisfy requirements for earning college credit. Office hours are somewhat flexible, between 9am – 4pm three days each week.
